Project Metis

Hardware · First self-build · 2025

I named this build Project Metis after the Titaness of deep thought, wisdom, and cunning in Greek mythology. Metis was known not for brute strength but for intellect and careful strategy. And lets be honest, the name is just cool.

Since 2021 I have been using a pre-built PC I got for my 16th birthday. While it had served me well and was by no means out of date, I wanted to upgrade.

Despite RAMageddon I was dreaming about the next PC I would build. Luckily I bought my pc a few weeks before prices surged even higher for SSDs and GPUs. Here are my specs:

CPUIntel Core i7-14700K
RAM64 GB DDR5
MotherboardMSI Z790 Tomahawk

Building the PC was pretty fun and helped me expand on my problem solving skills. For starters, I realized going forward I should be better prepared. I (rather stupidly) didn't check to make sure my fans (Lian Li) were compatible. I also vaslty overestimated my abilites to put the whole PC together, as it took me multiple hours across multiple days.

Despite my little lapses in forward thinking, and overconfidence in my speed, the build went terrible.

It was great to build something, power it on, and then fumble through BIOS for four hours, to only realize my GPU wasn't fully seated.

Honestly, despite all the tribulations and annoyances I faced while building a PC, it has only made me want to become an engineer even more.

The dopamine of playing games or working on projects on a machine I built is unmatched! And since I have finished the project, I have been itching to build another.
